Albania's prime minister, Edi Rama, spoke of this.
It was the Independence Day when I told President Willson to save this desperate race and his response was “I'll have a voice at the Peace Congress and use it in favour of Albania”. I don't think it happens anywhere else that the whole government and the whole country's head of the country will meet with the ambassador and celebrate the day they signed diplomatic relations. That doesn't make it completely incomprehensible or ridiculous what happens here in our country. Unlike all other countries, with no exception, this relationship has entered into a similar history with nothing else that has established this level and depth of our relationship with the United States. We are here today for the 100th anniversary, because on July 28, 1922, the official document arriving at the foreign ministry announcing the Albanian government that the US recognises the Albanian government“, he said.
Rama said the 100th anniversary comes after a story that is determining in this relationship today.
“The history of the violent separation of Albania and Albanians from the world and the total break of any ties with the US. Even placing the US in the daily target of the communist dictatorship. In a way Enver Hoxha is the man who worked more than in all of this day we're here. It's been working half a century to turn Albania and turn Albanians into the most determined lovers of the United States. All that the communist regime did to launder Albanians from the US were translated into the Albanian transition to the other extreme“, he said.
