Also, Kosovo's map, colored in the colors of the Serbian flag, is seen in northern Kosovo and has been written “no surrender” to counter the June 29th Kosovo Government's decision to issue documents for entry and exit, for citizens of Serbia entering Kosovo territory, broadcast the REL.
The Kosovo government has said that such a document, which will be valid for 90 days, Serbia has allowed Kosovo citizens 11 years.
In advance, on July 13th, in northern Mitrovica, RKS (Kosovo Republic) plates were covered with stickers with KM license plates issued by Serbia and Serbia's coat of arms, while several days later, tracts were seen on cars with the message “No surrender, KM remains”.
Kosovo considers an acronym plates of Kosovo cities issued by Serbia illegal.
With the government's new decision, citizens with Serbian license plates can reregister them by September 30th. The decision will be valid for all cars registered in the Serbian system between June 10th 1999 and April 21st of this year.
The issue of license plates had raised tensions between Kosovo and Serbia in September 2021. Kosovo decided the reciprocity measure against cars with Serbian license plates entering Kosovo, demanding that drivers cover state symbols in license plates. This decision prompted local Serbs to block border crossings between Kosovo and Serbia for two weeks, at Jarinje and Brnjak.
After the European Union's mediation, tensions decreased and the parties agreed on a temporary solution to the license plates. But, after the deadline is expired to reach an agreement on license plates, the two sides have continued the regime of contagious letters.
