Even though the second radiation device has been functional in this clinic, the large flow of patients continue who for about two weeks stopped receiving services. The staff of this clinic says the ministry would have to apply the patient delivery agreement to Albania, but from the ministry say there is no need for that.
Although other cancer - stricken radiation devices have been functional, a long list of patients waiting for radiation has been created in Oncology.
A significant number of patients have been collected. We're going to try over the next few weeks. We're calling everybody to start the procedure. We're really behind. These two weeks or three we haven't made radiation, we've been backed up by the “procedure, it's highlighted for RTK, Sonja Blakaj, chief of the Radiorapy Department, following: our “Repart works 12 hours, namely, 7m to 19 pm. The cameras are different, the new device, which has been mounted for years, has a much greater potential, with a capacity of between 70 and 75 patients. This old device could be anywhere from 40 to 45 patients with radiator”.
Family members of patients waiting for radiation talk about procedures after therapy is cut off.
Before the flood strikes, Mom's hit 15 radiation, and then she's been hanging out for about three weeks, now she's got three days and six total radiation. Today we've had a bit of an ambush because of new cases, but it's fine. Good staff, everything's fine”, said the family Andrew Zuka. Meanwhile, Ismet Gashi also family of a patient said his father has been waiting for two weeks.
They called today to continue the therapy, so everything's fine is going. Now we're waiting for”, Gashi said.
Dr. Blakaj considers that an invitation from the Albanian Ministry would have to be used to treat some patients in Albania.
“We have been waiting for the ministry that the agreement has been with the Albanian Health Ministry. We could use that deal so that some patients can go and be treated there not to wait here”, Blackaj added.
But the Health Ministry considers there is no need to send patients to Albania, as they think the Oncology staff should work with increased intensity to avoid patient waiting lists.
In a Written Answer to RTK, this minister says it is dedicated to better service of patients in general. “While in terms of the services of the Oncology Institute, the Radio therapy services, respectively, following recent events in this Institute, Minister Latifi, has recommended medical staff to work more so that patients' waiting list be eliminated”, is highlighted among other things in their response. While it states that the Albanian Health Ministry has expressed the will to help in this regard, but since the equipment is in good and functional condition, the treatment of all patients can be done at the Oncology Institute in Pristina.
