The airline has cancelled more than 1,000 flights due to the break of work and some 134 thousand passengers have been affected.
Lufthansa reportedly cancelled flights to Frankfurt and Munich airports.
The airline also expects to have impacts on Berlin, Bremen, Klin, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Hanover and Stuttgart airports.
Travel effects are expected to be felt in the coming days.
The Verdi service union has called for strike, demanding higher salaries and relief for about 20,000 employees.
The union complains about difficult conditions at German airports.
Lufthansa describes the strike as unreasonable.
According to its statement, the company presented a <x0-ferfert with very considerable wage growth”, but the union declined, saying the offer was not enough.
