Haxhiu for Special: We have found it done, and we cannot be held responsible

Haxhiu, at a media conference, said those who have pressured MPs at the time the Special Court was established in 2016 should be held responsible, not the current government.

“Sic knows the Special Court has entered the Kosovo Constitution. The constitution cannot be changed without the votes of 2/3 of Albanian deputies, and without 2/3 of the communities' votes. As you know, the Serbian List is also in the Assembly and does not provide support for that. We've found the Special Court as fact done. We cannot be held responsible, responsible for those who have sprained the hands of MPs at the time it was founded. They press charges towards the government, but I think it's exactly what they have to place in responsibility for the actions they've made”, she said.

Haxhiu, among other things, said they welcome any discussion concerning Dick Marty's report as he spoke of the resolution against his claims, adopted in Albania's Parliament two days ago.

Haxhiu also guaranteed that they are making sure that the rights of former Kosovo Liberation Army leaders being charged in The Hague are not violated.

The government of the Republic of Kosovo welcomes any discussion in relation to this, of course it is important for us that the rights of our citizens who are held there be respected for why I am saying this is that we have had concerns that their rights are being violated. I have expressed my concerns after the visit I had to The Hague because we have had the chance to meet with the ombudsman and all the questions we have addressed they are confidential. They've given answers to them, although we've only asked about the number of cases, is there any case where you considered that there were human rights violations they've been extremely reserved and of course I've expressed my concern that an instance dealing with human rights is functioning as such”, the minister said.

“As far as the monitoring mechanism is concerned after the visit the Speaker of the Parliament and my visit to The Hague, this issue is within institutional discussions and I still cannot say what the solution is to that. However, I assure you that we are in discussions with institutions in the Republic of Kosovo to address this issue because it is unprecedented that an institution like the Special Court has no other mechanism that oversees the” said Haxhiu.
