The European Union has decided to renew sanctions against Russia for another six months by the end of January 2023, according to the report. The Guardian.
The decision, a formalisation taken by EU energy ministers, refers to sanctions that were introduced for the first time in 2014 and expanded significantly after the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February of this year.
The European Union is also considering the possibility of sequencing Russian assets to use them for reconstruction of Ukraine. While most EU countries believe the seizure is politically and morally desirable, they are also concerned that it is not illegal and that it would create opportunities to sue the bloc that could risk losing the cases in its courts.
