The United States will send four other high-speed artillery missile systems (HIMARS) to Ukraine to the next security aid package, which will be officially announced later this week, US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin said on Wednesday.
“later this week, we will extract our next package of presidential withdrawal of weapons, ammunition and equipment for Ukraine. Our 16th withdrawal of equipment from the inventory since August 2021. This will include four more HIMARS, advanced missile systems which Ukrainians have used so effectively and have made a major difference in the field of battle”, Austin said.
The next security aid package will also include more MLRS and artillery ammunition, Austin said in his address to the Pentagon, CNN reported.
He noted as the Ukrainian Contact Group, comprised of more than 40 participating countries, has sent aid to Ukraine since their personal meeting last month in Brussels on 15 June, saying the US has provided more than $2.6 billion in security aid to Ukraine.
“More than 30 countries have now sent military assistance to Ukraine at its difficult moment and we continue to make significant progress”, he added. /abcnews. al
