Russia has lost nearly 50,000 soldiers who were killed or wounded during the invasion of Ukraine and nearly 1,700 tanks were destroyed, the head of Britain's armed forces said.
But Admiral Tony Radaki told the BBC on July 17th that any speculation that the losses could bring down Russian President Vladimir Putin's government is simply “wishful”.
“I think some of the comments that he's not okay or someone will really kill him or take him away from power are just wishful thinking, he said, referring to Putin.
“As military professionals, we see a relatively stable regime in Russia. President Putin has been able to shut down any opposition. We see a hierarchy that is invested in President Putin and therefore no one who is in charge has the motivation to challenge President Putin”, Radaki added.
And this is gloomy”
The British Army chief said that with the impasses in Ukraine, Russia's land forces now pose less threat than before the war began.
In addition to losses in personnel and tanks, Russia has been destroyed by nearly 4,000 armoured combat vehicles since the 24 February invasion, the British Army chief said.
But Russia continues to be a nuclear power. It has cyber skills, has spatial capacity, and especially has underwater programs or may threaten to attack cables that are found underwater that allow information to circulate worldwide”.
