Local authorities in the Japanese town of Yamaguchi have reportedly killed one of them, as the BBC writes, a <x0 group of monkeys” that has terrorised the city's inhabitants for weeks. So far, the cats have injured almost 50 people in Yamaguchi.
Hunters found the animal on the grounds of high school and put it to sleep after it was confirmed that it was part of the monkey's “baseman” responsible for the attacks.
Authorities have been tracking monkeys since attacks on adults and children about three weeks ago. Most injuries were scratches.
There are still incidents, and the search for other aggressive monkeys continues. It has been estimated that the seized monkey was four years old and about half a meter long.
Japanese macaws are common in parts of Japan, and in some areas they are damaging after eating crops and sometimes entering homes. However, attacks on people are unusual, reports the BBC.
