The State Treasury said in a statement it has imposed sanctions on 70 entities, many of which are said to be key to Russia's defence industry base, as well as to 29 people in an effort to prevent the ability to develop and establish weapons and technology for use in the invasion of Ukraine.
Treasury Secretary from State Department Janet Yelen said: “The marking of Russia's defence industry will reduce Putin's capabilities and further undermine the fight against Ukraine, which has already been plagued by poor morality, broken supply chains and logistical failures”.
The American Treasury said these measures “target weakening Russia's ability to continue air strikes on Ukraine”.
The ban will apply to recently refined gold, but will not affect earlier exports of gold of Russian origin.
Speaking to that decision, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said: “The measures we have received today will directly hit the Russian oligarchs and hit the heart of Putin's war machine”. /Periscopi/
