Russia launches series of attacks on Ukraine, launchs 40 rockets

The New York Times reported that more than 40 rockets were used in these attacks, which, according to the paper, were launched from Belarusic airspace just hours before a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and that Belarusus Alexandr G. Lukashenko in St Petersburg.
There is still no information about potential victims as a result of these attacks.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian troops announced they are withdrawing from the eastern city of Sevierodonnetsk after weeks of fierce fighting with Russian forces.
Luhansk region Governor Serhiy Hasai said troops had been ordered to move to new positions.
Ukraine said Russian forces had fully occupied the nearby town of Lysychansk, which also lies in the eastern region of Luhansk. Moscow claimed it has surrounded about 2,000 Ukrainian troops in the area.
The odds are for the Kremlin to take full control of the Luhansk province, one of Moscow's declared goals.
To stabilise the situation in Luhansk, Ukraine needs guns told the highest Ukrainian general, his American counterpart on Friday.
“We discussed the operational situation and the flow of international technical assistance“, Ukrainian General Valeriy Zalluzey wrote on the Telegram app after a call with General Mark Milley, chief of the US General Staff.
Ukraine has said that Russia's advantage in artillery, on the Donbas front line, is costing many Ukrainian troops, and Kiev has urged Western partners to supply more weapons.
A senior US defence official on Friday praised Ukraine's decision to withdraw from Siverodonetsk, naming it a <x0-professional” “tactic”.
The official who spoke on condition of anonymity said Russian forces have been able to advance around Sievierodonetsk, but at considerable cost as he added.
The “Russians have suffered multiple casualties and losses in heavy weapons”, the official said. “Russian forces are giving signs of weakened consumption and morality, and this is affecting their ability to advance at speed”.
The US promised this week $450m more in military aid to Ukraine, including other long-range missile systems, in addition to a $1 billion aid announced about a week ago.
The senior US defence official said on Friday that Ukrainian forces are training with four other high-speed artillery missile systems (HIMARS) part of the newly announced package. American systems will be in use in war within weeks. / VOA/
