Interpol Secretary General Jurgen Stock told the Anglo-American Press Association that he “has no doubt” that illegal arms trafficking will increase.
“We have seen this in the Balkan region”, Mr. Stock said. “We've seen this in the wars in Africa, of course, organized crime groups try to exploit this chaotic situation, the availability of weapons and even the weapons used by the military. ”
Small arms are the main concern, he said.
Jurgen Stock called on 195 Interpol member states that “use available data that can help track weapons, for example, those stolen in another country”.
No country in our region can handle this problem alone, because criminals I'm talking about operate at a global level”, Interpol's top official said.
Interpol, based in Lyons France, does not conduct investigations but offers training for police and customs officers to, for example, identify trafficking routes. / VOA
