In this German government communiqué, Chancellor Scholz has reportedly stressed the importance of dialogue and that it is unimaginable that two countries that do not recognise each other will be part of the European Union.
According to the communiqué, progress in the dialogue process is one of the most necessary things to happen now, and it is also said that Kosovo and Serbia should move forward with the prospect for membership in the European Union.
“Scholz also stressed the importance of moving ahead of the EU-led dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia. Until today, Serbia does not recognise the independence of Kosovo, which was once part of Serbian territory. More than 20 years after the war ended, NATO is still in office with KFOR's mission in the Balkans to ensure security. According to the Chancellor, it is inevitable that two countries that do not recognise each other become EU members.”, the communique says.
Also, the communiqué says that for Scholz, progress in the Kosovo dialogue Serbia is one of the things that are absolutely necessary and that it would like to encourage all political leaders to ensure that this actually happens, make concrete agreements and improve so that dialogue can lead to normalisation.
On the other hand, it is noteworthy that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has had disagreements with Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, in terms of the Kosovo and Ukrainian issue.
