Intensification of the attacks in Ukraine occurs as leaders of the industrialized G7 countries have gathered at Schloss Elmau Castle in Germany to discuss the Russian war, energy and the food crisis.
US President Joe Biden described the recent attacks on Kiev as barbarous acts, while at the meeting held with the host, Olaf Scholz called for unity. “We have to stay united in G7 and NATO, Putin hopes that we will be divided, but this did not happen and will not happen”, the head of the White House said.
In his speech at the start of the summit, European Council President Charles Michel stated that G7 countries share the same goal to cut off the oxygen of the war machine in Russia through sanctions, while also caring for their economies. He said the Russian war had put the world at risk, affecting food prices, fuel prices and security.
“We share all the same goal; Cut off oxygen for the Russian war machine while we take care of our economies and those of our partners. Bea will stay close to Ukrainians over a long term to protect sovereignty and territorial integrity and defend our common democratic values”, the Belgian said.
