At the June 23rd and 24th summit, leaders of the 27 EU member states will consider applications for the status of the candidate country of Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia, as well as the Western Balkans' prospects for EU membership.
According to Euroactiv, it is taught that France has proposed creating a “European Political Community”.
French President Emmanuel Macron has talked about creating a platform for political co-ordination for European countries throughout the continent.
The platform may include the Western Balkans, the associated countries of our Eastern Partnership, theEFTA countries and all other European countries with which the European Union has close relations.
The European Union expresses full and unequivocal support for EU membership prospects for the Western Balkans and extends an invitation to speed up the membership process”, says the draft document to be presented at the summit.
From this meeting, the European Commission, High Representative and Council will extend further the gradual integration between the European Union and the region during the process of expansion in resurviable mode and based on”.
Albania, Northern Macedonia and Serbia are expected to decide today whether to participate in the EU summit, where the decision to start negotiations will be made.
The summit will be held in Brussels on June 23rd and 24th, while there has still not been a clear statement from the three countries in the region, if they are present.
Prime Minister Edi Rama declared a day earlier in a post on social networks that after he spoke to the leaders of Serbia and Northern Macedonia, it was concluded there would be another “no, sorry!” from the summit.
Bulgaria has blocked the membership of Albania and North Macedonia by vetoing the latter.
Meanwhile, the EU has not addressed the two countries in the integration process separately, with the argument that it would be better for regional stability if the two neighbours could advance together.
The EU will also consider granting candidate status to Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia at the Brussels summit.
