Greece puts primary importance on the consolidation of peace, security and stability in the wider Western Balkan region. In this direction, it promotes the reinforcement of bilateral relations on the basis of respect for the International Law, the International Law of the Sea, and actively supports the European perspective of the Western Balkans”, the report said.
Greek top diplomat Nikos Dendias received the decision to appoint her as envoy.
“Minister of Foreign Affairs, who made successful visits to Tirana, Skopje, Sarajevo, Belgrade and Pristina in recent weeks, has decided to appoint a special envoy for the Western Balkans”.
Grammata was named Greece's ambassador to Romania, with accreditation simultaneously in Moldova in 2019. She had previously served as director of the Directorate for Southeast Europe of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This appointment comes after Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis's statement, which said the Western Balkans should join the EU by 2033.
Recently, several emissaries from various countries were appointed for the Western Balkans. From the US to this post is Gabriel Escobar, from the EU Miroslav Lajcak, whose focus is Kosovo-Serbia dialogue from the United Kingdom, Stuart Peach, until the German government first appointed Manel Sarrazzin.
