According to Gadden City school supervisor Tony Reddick, at least 34 students were inside Walnut Park elementary school when the man tried to get inside, while authorities are investigating the incident.
In a press release, Alabama Law Implementation Agency said that the individual was seen trying to break into a city patrol vehicle near the school. An officer contacted him and tried to stop him, reportedly. But during the conflict, the individual attempted to take the officer's firearm while the officer called for support. Another officer responded by shooting at the individual who was declared dead at the scene, according to the announcement.
The school officer was transported to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries he received during the conflict, while he is unaware if the suspect was armed.
Although the school year is over, during the summer the school has an education camp for primary school students.
This event comes days after the Texas massacre, where 19 children and two adults, among whom a teacher, were killed in a shooting attack by an 18-year-old teenager identified as Salvador Ramos. /A2 CNN
