The wild elephant killed a 70-year-old woman on Thursday. However, just a few days later, the same animal returned to its family's house.
Maya Murmu, 70-year-old, was drawing water from a pond in the state of Odysha, in eastern India, when the elephant appeared.
Local police said Murmu had been sent to the hospital where he passed away because of injuries.
Local reports showed family members gathered for the funeral and were among the rituals when the same elephant appeared.
It is reported that the elephant then pulled the victim's body out of the coffin and stepped on it again.
The family was able to continue with the ceremony after his departure.
It is unclear whether the animal hurt anyone present at the funeral.
