Anni that working groups have been formed to meet the change of the Law for Automotive, Deputy Infrastructure Minister Hysen Durmishi has said of Kosova Preress, that it does not come in the expression of the removal of auto age restrictions.
While, the Democratic Party of Kosovo(PDK) days ago has warned that prior to the dismissal of MPs, it will re-initiate the legal initiative in the Assembly to complete the Law on Automotives, which allows for import of vehicles older than ten years.
Deputy Prime Minister Durmish says allowing imports of vehicles older than ten years would affect the growth of environmental pollution in Kosovo.
One of the points discussed in the processing groups has been this about the age of vehicles. Of course, the environment is important for us, so that we do not allow large numbers of vehicles to increase air pollution in Kosovo. And we're aiming to create mechanisms through technical controls through other forms to reduce the pollution caused by vehicles as much as possible. Therefore, it does not come in the current expression to remove the limit for ageing vehicles, because this then affects the growth of pollution here in Kosovo”, notes Durmish.
Deputy Prime Minister Durmish has shown the time when Kosovo can allow the import of cars older than 10 years.
We can talk about this because we can create such a situation when we can cut emissions from vehicles through various forms, such as the establishment of some additional filters of all vehicles. Then, we can talk about increasing the age of” vehicles, he says.
Durmish understands the serious economic situation of citizens, but says primary is the health of citizens.
According to Durmish, the average age of vehicles in Kosovo is 19 years.
“Yes, but this is about a large number of vehicles in Kosovo. The age of average vehicles is 19 years in Kosovo. If we grow this, then we'll increase the import of old cars from places that want to remove vehicles from their countries. That's why this will affect increasing pollution and for us primary is the health of citizens”, he says.
While against allowing the import of old cars, environmentalists and economic connoisseur have also expressed themselves. /kp/
