In the first five months of this year, according to the Kosovo Police, nine suicide cases have been recorded. Sociologists say that this figure is disturbing, while among the factors it is impacting is the lack of communication with family, the failure of institutions, and the stigmatisation of people consulting psychologists as well
The last case described as suicide occurred in Pristina's Lagen Kalabria, five days ago.
Police had indicated that the bloodless body of a middle-aged person was found inside a car. According to them, this person allegedly committed suicide, while a 12 - bullet firearm had been found near the lifeless body.
This is just one of several recent suicide cases.
In the first five months of this year, according to the Kosovo Police, the number of suicides is almost digital.
By May 15th, according to the data, nine suicides and 40 attempted suicide.
Meanwhile, 44 suicides and 132 attempted suicide have been recorded for the following year.
According to sociologist, Bleona Kurteshi this figure is disturbing. She says there are several factors that are affecting this phenomenon.
“For suicide phenomena especially recently in Kosovo, we can say there are some factors like social inequality, general social depression, promoting certain mass values of which individuals do not find themselves. It is important that even state institutions have their duty. However, not only institutions but also family, family communication. Today we see a family's noncommunication”, says Kurteshi.
Besides, Kurteshi says that the stigmatization of psychologists is also being influenced.
We need to create a culture and not stigmatize one who is visited by a psychologist. Psychologist is very important, we lack psychologists in our institutions, and people don't consult psychologist”, says. RTV Dukagjin Kurteshi.
Unlike the end of the war in Kosovo, police have recorded about a thousand suicides.
