Jordan Gatley, who left the British Army in March and travelled to Ukraine, was described as “as a hero” from his father.
He died in the battle for the eastern city of Severodonnetsk, which has had intense fighting in recent days.
The Great Britain Foreign Ministry has said that “is supporting the family of a Briton who died in Ukraine”.
Gatley's father wrote on a Facebook post that his son had helped train local forces. He added that Jordan was shot dead on the front line while defending the town and they were informed of his death Friday.
