US Secretary of State Antony Blinken declared today that Western sanctions against Russia because of its attack on Ukraine have a significant impact.
In an interview for CNN at the G7 summit in Germany, he said that although Russia receives revenues from oil at higher prices, it is unable to spend it due to export control.
“Russia cannot take what it needs to modernise its defence sector, to modernise its technology, to modernise its energy research, which means that over time each of these areas will drop”, Blinken said.
He referred to predictions under which the Russian economy will drop to 15 percent next year.
Blinken added that G7 and NATO will continue to collectively do everything in their power to ensure that Ukrainians have what they need to protect themselves from Russian aggression”.
