Banks in Kosovo have expensived their utility fees. To address the issue of bank services' prices, the Central Bank of Kosovo is in finalisation of a draft law, where in addition to the Paying and Direct Services Guide for Electronic Money Institutions, it is planned to transposit the EU directive “for the payment account”.
So has made it known to Radio Kosovo that BEC spokesman Kuqim Ahmeti, who said measures have been taken, discussions with the banking sector about financial involvement and the banking products offered by them.
The BEC spokesman has said that based on the Law on Obligations Relations, banks are obliged to inform a month ahead of customers about any change, including the question of the amount of account maintenance.
The rise in these bank services prices from the head of the Kosovar Business Alliance, Agim Sahini, is seen as an increase that depletes the pocket of citizens, consumers and businesses.
When this is added to the nontransaction, then this is a heavy form for every client with a bank account. According to the rules, banks should give more advice to their clients about raising tariffs, and that would make customers decide whether to keep the money in the bank or withdraw it from that bank. The financial system and financial sector remains one of the most expensive sectors in Europe”, Sahin told Radio Kosovo.
Sahin said the same banks that are based in EU countries there operate lower prices, and in Kosovo apply tariffs 4 times higher. Sahin says the CQ is an overseer's authority and that's why he has to take over.
Why is this allowed? The CEC has the authority to prohibit all illegal actions or that are contrary to European directives, despite those banks that even come from the EU or world countries they are licensed by the CEC and they respond to the CEC”, he added.
E The CEC through an answer recalls that 11 commercial banks are licensed in Kosovo, where customers can voluntarily choose the bank with which they can cooperate.
