A 48-year-old American escaped from a hospital in the Mexican town of Puerto Valartta after observing the intense symptoms of monkey oak, the Mexican Federal State Ministry of Jalysco announced, where Puerto Vallarty is located.
After he escaped from the hospital, the man returned to the hotel, took his belongings, and boarded a plane to Texas before local authorities were able to find him, reports France24.
U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed that their citizen returned to the United States, as well as that he was infected with monkeypox and that it was the first case of monkeypoke in that American state.
Before traveling to Mexico, the man spent 4-5 days in Berlin, Germany.
