Albania's first engagement as head of the UN Security Council will be the call of this body on June 2nd to discuss “strengthening accountability and violations of international law”.
Justice and peace walk side by side and Albania remains fully engaged in this direction. We are privileged to voice our beliefs and direct the UN Security Council with all our will and passion for what we firmly believe”, Rama said.
Albania takes the lead in the UN in one of the most difficult geopolitical periods.
Russia's aggression towards Ukraine, the war-caused refugee crisis, continuing Russian threats to NATO allies, further expansion of the pro-Western military Alliance, Western sanctions over Russia, and European dependence on Russian gas have dominated the international agenda in recent months.
Russia's “fight in Ukraine has challenged European security and shaken world order based on rules. We cannot and should not get used to impunity. It is urgent to act, now, for countless victims of senseless conflicts”, Rama said.
On June 1st, in a month, Albania will head the UN Security Council.
This is the first time the country has taken such a role in this international organisation, as it has been selected to be a temporary member of the UN Security Council this year.
