A 70-year-old man killed three people at a church dinner in Alabama.
Police said the man, who had previously attended the service at St. Stefan's Episcopal Church, drew a pistol and shot three of the participants, one of whom died in the arms of his wife.
The incident in a rich suburb of Birmingham surprised the local community.
Rev Doug Carpenter, pastor of St. Stefan for three decades, said the three victims were members attending a monthly church dinner.
Carpenter said another member, a man in his mid-70s, grabbed a chair and hit the armed person, preventing him from shooting at the others.
Church members kept the suspect until the police arrived, reports Guardian, broadcast Clankosova.tv.
The shooting occurred just over a month after one person was killed and five were injured when a man opened fire on Taiwanese parishers in a church in southern California.
