The 50th anniversary of Watergate and similarities to the attack on Capitol on January 6th

The Watergate scandal and the events of January 6th are half a century apart, in very different ages and have to do with various problems. But in both cases, a republican president tried to avoid the rules of democracy. June 17th marks Watergate's 50th anniversary, which eventually ended Richard's presidency. [...]
June 17th marks Watergate's 50th anniversary, which eventually ended Richard Nixon's presidency. The anniversary coincides with House of Representatives hearings for the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol. The mysteries of both cases continue.
Are any uncontested evidence still expected to be revealed that would directly implicate Donald Trump for the Capitol attack? Or have we already seen them in a call he made to the supporters to come to Washington “to fight as never before”, or when he expressed out loudly, what he thought of Vice President Pence ʹ one of the few people who opposed him from the narrow circle of convinced conspiracyists about him that “probably had to be buried, as the crowd of protesters say<3>?
And from the time of Watergate the question of why Nixon was tempted to commit illegal political acts has been unanswered? He was confident of victory for re-election when persons, linked to his election team, entered the Democratic Party offices like today 50 years ago and were caught.
His role in covering the Wargate story and then attempts to undermine justice forced Nixon, two years after the event, to leave office. He resigned to avoid safe dismissal from the trial in the Senate. Three Republican leaders from Congress convinced him there was no other way out.
You changed from Nixon, Trump was desperate after he had clearly lost the 2020 election, while encouraging his people attorneys, assistants, as well as violent supporters at the Capitol in an effort to change the election results and keep him in office. Few in his party urged Trump to publicly accept defeat.
Watate is the U.S. Presidential scandal that all others compare to. He brought down a president from power. January 6th, however, was the event where blood spilled.
Wotte had a powerful political impact. Dozens of Republicans lost in the 1974 Congress elections. This time around, the Republican party is expected to have good results in November.
Michael Dobbbs, author of the book “King Richard: Nixon and Watgatet a US tragedy”, says the system worked out in the Watergate case because Congress, courts and the press did their job to denounce the chain of criminal activities that had occurred and forced Nixon to resign.
“System was tested then,” he says, “por, today, is under a much more difficult test. ”
When the Senate's commission on the Watergate issue held its historic sessions in May 1973, the public was also concerned by the economy, high inflation, and at that time one of the biggest shocks of the stock market took place.
But the Americans followed closely what was a president's spectacle, which was slowly sinking but inevitably in shame.
The January 6 hearings, to this day, have nothing to do with revealing new facts than those already discovered during months of methodical work.
For Mr. Dobbs, the evidence of the direct involvement of Trump in the planning, or the promotion of the January 6th riots, with the aim of overturning the election outcome, must be irrefutable.
The challenge for the 6 January investigation and for prosecution are the vague “nature of Trump's statements from a legal standpoint”, he says. His statements can be interpreted in various ways”.
In publishing evidence previously recorded by Trump's close associates, the investigative commission has exposed the degree at which some, or many, in the Trump district, knew his claims that the elections had been stolen were a fraud. Even his daughter Ivanka Trump wasn't believing that.
The commission on the Watergate issue, comprised of four Democrats and three republics, was established by unanimous voting in the Senate. The House of Representatives Commission for the events of January 6th in contrast was formed by a vote of 222 pro and 190 against. His establishment only voted two republics, which today are members of the Commission.
While Trump declared his claims openly and publicly, Nixon acted privately, or thought he was acting privately. It was the White House registration system that Nixon had installed himself, which betrayed him when the Supreme Court forced Nixon to hand over the tape tapes.
In a conversation on June 23rd 1972, six days after illegal entry into the offices of the Democratic Party, White House staff chief H.R. Haldeman, quoted as recommending that the FBI be told “give up the investigation of the event before the bureau follows the crime trail, which was conceived at the White House”.
“Okay, well,” says Nixon. “
That was irrefutable evidence, which also undermined the support that had remained to the republican party of Nixon.
All these years later, it is still not known which person gave the order to enter the Democratic Party offices in the Watatet complex. There is no evidence that Nixon was directly involved, but there is also no uncertainty about the fact, that he tried to cover the scandal and acted illegally. / VOA
