The Christian fundamentalist organization La Luz del Mundo (meaning World Light in Spanish) was founded in Mexico in 1926 by Naasón Joaquín García, Eusebius Yoaquín González.
The influence of the church has spread over the past few years and is strong in parts of California that have large Hepanic populations that Garcia often visited.
He was arrested at Los Angeles Airport in 2019 along with two of his female followers as they arrived on a private plane.
The church says it has baptized more than five million people worldwide, but its independently verified followers are difficult to find.
