Simonov was reportedly killed near the town of Izyum in the northeast region of Kharkiv. The images spread to social media seem to indicate a missile strike. The attack also reportedly destroyed over 30 Russian armoured vehicles, including tanks.
Presidential adviser Olexey Aristovych said during an interview that about 100 Russians were killed in the attack, including Simonov. Government adviser Anton Gerashchenko also disclosed the news in his Telegram account.
The number of Putin commanders who lost their lives in Ukraine continues to rise as a crushing blow to the Russian leader.
A total of nine Russian generals have now been killed in Putin's war along with 36 colonels and 300 officers. /abcnews. al
