The UN General Assembly has scheduled 29 May as the UN International Peacekeepers' Day.
This day aims to honour peacekeepers who have lost their lives for the cause of peace, as well as honouring all men and women who continue service in UN operations, for high professionalism, dedication and courage.
Since the establishment of the peacekeeping mission in 1948, about 3 thousand and 200 soldiers, police and civil staff have lost their lives in the service of peace, as a result of accidents, violence, or diseases, Kosovo passes.
Peacekeepers use this day to strengthen ties with the local population they serve.
