Dusan Janjaq from the Forum for Ethnic Relations in Belgrade says it is totally insignificant what Vuciq will promise with the oath he swore as president today.

Vuciq as a common oath was “that all my powers will be dedicated to preserving the sovereignty and entire territory of the Republic of Serbia, including Kosovo and Metohija as an integral part of it”.

Could the president, in reality, implement what he said he couldn't. We saw that he couldn't organise elections there, nor the referendum on changing the Constitution, if not that he could not send the army and police, nor could he go there by himself”, Janjic told Radio Free Europe.

Serbia's president was last in Kosovo in September 2018, when he visited Weyman (Gazioda) in northern Kosovo and countries where the majority Serb population lives.

The visit was approved by authorities in Kosovo, as envisioned by the Brussels Agreement.

Under an agreement between Belgrade and Pristina, which has been implemented since 2014, both sides have pledged to submit reports and ask for permission to visit officials.

The situation on the ground is such that if the Government of Kosovo does not want that, President Vuciq cannot enter there”, Free Europe analyst from Kosovo Agon Maliqi told Radio.

Vuciq was also scheduled to visit Kosovo in 2020, but his visit was not approved.

In an atmosphere of tension with Pristina, he met with Serbian political representatives in Belgrade or traveled south of the country.

Following Kosovo's anti-muggling police shares, which sparked protests by Serbs in northern Kosovo in October 2021, Vuciq met with them in Rashka in southern Serbia.

In September the same year, Police Minister Aleksandar Vulin visited the Gendarmerie Bureau in Kralev (about 80 km from Kosovo), due to the deployment of the Kosovo Special Police Unit at border points with Serbia and reciprocal measures for removing Serbian license plates from vehicles entering Kosovo.
