The new legislation, which returns some measures that were mentioned last year at the time of general elections, comes just a week after the shooting at a school in Texas, the United States where 19 students and 2 teachers were killed.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told reporters that the new measures were necessary as shooting attacks are increasing.
