Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Kristalina Georgieva, reminded attendees that the IMF forecasted an increase of 3.6 percent for 2022, which is “a long way towards global recession”.
Georgieva said the global perspective was “more or less like the weather here in Davos ʹthe horizon has been darkened”.
She said it would be “a difficult year” and that one of the biggest problems is rising food prices, which in part has been prompted by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The IMF chief listed other challenges, including increasing interest rates, inflation, strengthening the dollar, economic slowdown in China, the climate crisis, and finally the cryptovalus.
