The United Kingdom, followed by Spain, was ranked second. Sweden and Serbia completed Top 5.
However, the vote was not as direct as it seems.
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) had to lift the 6 countries' votes after noting “irregular voting models”.
They were replaced by a summary result based on countries with similar voting models in both the second and the great finals.
Votes from Azerbaijan, Georgia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania and San Marino were all replaced with the new result. The EBU issued a statement during the grand finale before the poll segment began to begin, through which it suggested that some countries had tried to manipulate the outcome.
In order to comply with the contest's voting guidelines, The EBU worked with its voter partner to calculate a general substitute outcome for each country in question, both for the second semifinal and for the big final (calculed on the results of other countries with similar voting data).
This process was accepted by the Independent Vote Monitor. The EBU takes any alleged attempts to manipulate the Eurovision vote extremely seriously and has the right to lift these votes in accordance with the official voting guidelines, whether such votes can influence the results or not, and/or the outcome of the vote.”, the statement said.
