In a media statement by the former OVL-KLA chief's defence team, the stated sentence is beyond any previously pronounced condemnation and will file complaints against the sentence.
Mr. K. Gucati, he shares the belief that today's bias is wrong, and we will appeal him to overturn him. Moreover, we share the thought that the pronounced punishment is obviously too much and beyond any previously pronounced punishment in any comparable case. We will also file complaints against sentence”, said in the statement.
Gucatt's defense also states that the guilty plea will probably leave Gucatin in prison until the prosecution closes their case for all other charges currently in the Special Chambers.
Depending on these complaints, the consequence of guilty bias and pronounced condemnation is that Mr. Gucati will likely remain in prison until the prosecution closes their cases for all other charges currently in specialised rooms. It's axiomatic that punishment should be proportional to the behavior of the accused and not be counted with reference to the other times. The court stated that their decision is the decision of the people of Kosovo. The people of Kosovo know where the truth lies. The people of Kosovo recognise their history. We will not allow history to be rewritten. Today's prejudice is not the beginning of the end-this is the end of a start”, the Gucatt defence team's statement says.
The two former KLA veterans' guides -- Hysni Gucati and Nasim Haradinaj -- have been sentenced to four and a half years in prison by the trial chamber of Specialised Chambers. They are in The Hague from September 2020. This time will be counted as part of the condemned act of four and a half years in prison.
