American Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin confirmed the news. If confirmed by the Senate, Cavoli will take the lead of about 100,000 American soldiers deployed in Europe, at a time when more than two months later, Russia continues to hold its troops in Ukraine.
One of General Cavoli's duties will be to coordinate the weapons and other supplies Ukraine will receive, as well as monitor Russia's military movements in Europe.
The American Command in Europe has been taken care of since the beginning of the war for the operation of the entire chain of sending Western weapons to Ukraine. Armations are sent to border sites, such as Poland and Romania, and then taken by Ukrainian military personnel and moved in through trucks or trains. US forces in this facility have also taken on training Ukrainian soldiers in the use of artillery systems.
Cavoli will replace Air Force General Todd Walters, who will retire. Cavoli speaks Russian and has served as director for Russia at the U.S. Army General Staff. He has also carried out missions in Afghanistan and has expanded knowledge of combat and military operations on the ground. /A2 CNN
