American Embassy Security in Kiev: The Biden Administration is thinking of sending special forces there

The Biden administration is in the early stages of possible sending special operations forces to Ukraine for the limited mission to help preserve the security of the United States Embassy in Kiev, according to some American officials. The idea of using SOF is in its initial stages and it is not yet [...]
The embassy reopened last week after closing for about three months.
At the moment, the embassy and its limited number of personnel are protected by diplomatic officials for security by the State Department. The discussion revolves around whether a security increase is needed if the number of personnel is increasing and whether the SOF is equipped enough to meet these requirements.
American Marines usually guard American embassies in the world, but in Kiev, for the time being, there is a joint accord that the staff of the Navy Corps Embassy guard may not be appropriate for the uncertainty of security appearance in Ukraine without additional forces, officials say.
The United States does not believe Russia would openly attack the embassy. But the concern is that Russia's missiles, or air defence, could unwittingly target the complex and the situation could continue dramatically, officials say. American officials say Russia has a full consensus on the official basis the United States uses its military personnel to preserve embassies around the world and that such presence should not be viewed as a transition. However, an introduction of American forces to Ukraine could raise concerns that it could lead to a perception of an American transition, since President Biden had declared that American Land Forces would not fight in Ukraine.
The concern is that if special forces go to Ukraine, then the United States should be willing to offer a quick means to evacuate them and embassy personnel outside Ukraine in case of crisis. For the time being, the only options are vehicle and rail transport to the border.
Right now, at the Pentagon there are no attempts to bring air support like helicopters. If that were to happen, this could escape American military tracks due to the need for further rescue forces if an American pilot was shot.
WJS first reported that special operations forces are being considered for the safety of the embassy. /Periscopi/
