Third round to Albanian president's election failed

In Albania's Parliament on Monday, 30 May, the third round for the country's president failed, due to a lack of candidacy. This paves the way for the ruling Socialist Party (PS) to elect the first of the state alone. With this round burned, the opposition Democratic Party did not ...
With this round burned, the opposition Democratic Party is no longer relevant to the president's election. According to the Constitution, only in three out of five rounds required the support of 84 deputies, but in the fourth round of voting, the president could be elected the candidate, who secures a simple majority of votes, 71 votes, respectively.
The Socialist Party has 74 deputies and has not submitted any candidacy so far.
After talks between the SP and the opposition in order to find a unifying figure for the president's post, the parliamentary majority stood by the decision not to grant any candidacy under the argument that by the third round, this is the right of opposition. The opposition, comprised mainly of the Democratic Party, did not change access, and described it as an insincere invitation from the ruling party.
The head of the DP's Parliamentary Group, Enkeleed Alibeaj, accused the SP of not wanting a president over the parties.
“We as opposition did our duty to give the country a consensual president. To be a president on the sides, all sides must participate in the process”, he said.
He has demanded that the president's election be made jointly, calling for a unifying figure that does not come from the ranks of the SP or PD.
“lost an opportunity to give Albania and Albanians an institution that would have to have the legitimacy of the” parties, Alibeaj said.
However, the head of the SP Parliamentary Group, Taulant Balla, blamed the Democrats for not presenting any names in the last two rounds.
We've had readiness to sit in concrete names with the opposition. If the opposition has wanted from the start a president to choose for himself, I don't think it does anybody any favors. We will continue to seek communication with all MPs from the opposition parliamentary groups”, he said.
Albania's own prime minister, Edi Rama, has said the Socialist Party cannot offer and burn its candidacy for president in the first three votes.
Keeping the next session for electing the president is scheduled on Tuesday, May 31st, where the Socialist Party is expected to gather its chairmanship to decide on the possible presidential candidate. The maximum time limit is Monday, June 6th.
Albania's Assembly has legal deadlines to elect the country's new president until 60 days before it officially takes office on July 24th of this year -- the day it leaves the current president's office, Ilir Meta.
