When asked during a presentation on CBS News's “Face programme if Russia is committing genocide in Ukraine, Zelensky replied: “Actually. This is genocide”.
“Elimination of the entire nation and people. We are the citizens of Ukraine. We have more than 100 nationalities. It's about the destruction and extermination of all these nationalities. Ukraine does not want to be subject to the policy of the Russian Federation, Zelensky said, adding that this “is the reason we are being destroyed and destroyed”.
This is happening in Europe of the 21st century. So this is the torture of the whole nation,” he said.
The bodies of at least 20 civilian men were found scattered along a street in Bucha following the withdrawal of Russian forces from the area, according to images published by the AFP on Saturday.
Russian atrocities have drawn international outrage, with Western leaders calling for war crimes investigations and new sanctions against Russia.
