The lifeless bodies of murdered civilians have been lying on the streets of Bucha, a village near the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, which was under Russia's occupation until last week, writes Al Jazeera, past Periscope.
Ukraine and its allies have accused Russia's forces of committing war crimes in areas they have captured following the invasion of Ukraine on February 24th.
Until Russia's no-founded suspicion, a witness speaks of the unprotested killings of civilians and pictures of the streets of the village destroyed with corpses have revealed extraordinary human pain.
Hanna Herega, resident of Bucha, said she saw the murder of a man from Russian troops.
“Burri went to pick up some trees when they (the Jews) suddenly started shooting. They hit him a little bit over his heel, destroying his bone and he fell”, Herega told Al Jazzera.
“Sulmers shouted: Don't scream or I'll shoot you! And then they left. Then they shot all over his leg in shoes. Then they shot all over his chest. And another shot went a little under the forehead. It was a deliberate shot to the head”, she added.
Before gathering troops, authorities photograph and document them in an effort to collect evidence that could set the stage for war crimes investigations.
“Finally we have an opportunity to record what happened, all of this will be presented in our case”, said Bucha chairman Anatoly Fedoruk.
“Although troops will leave this road, the wounds this village is feeling will take a long time until it recovers”, he said.
Al Jazeera journalist Imran Khan, reporting from Bucha, counted 10 troops on one street alone.
Ukraine officials, including President Volodymyr Zelenksy, have accused Russian troops of committing war crimes that could lead to genocide. /Periscopi
