Ukraine could receive the country's EU candidate status in June, so it has declared a minister of the Ukrainian government, according to The Guardian.
Olga Stefanisina, Ukraine's deputy prime minister for European and Euro-Atlantic integration, said her country would try to become a member of the European Union as soon as possible. Its statement comes a day after the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyeen's meeting with the president of Ukraine.
At a joint press conference, Von der Leyeen handed over to Ukrainian President a questionnaire that will be a starting point for Ukraine's EU membership.
“Ukrainian is part of the European family. We've heard your request very clearly and we're here to give you a first positive answer: on this envelope is the beginning of your journey to the EU.
In this envelope is the questionnaire for membership. The Union, which will have to be met, then the recommendation must be made to the EU Council. If we work together, it could be a matter of weeks,” said von der Leenen.
