The chief of the European Union in Kosovo, Thomas Szunyog, has said the government of Kosovo should do its homework and present the successes in the European Union member states in order to get support for visa liberalisation.
He has said Kosovo should be offered to member states by working through embassies it has in EU countries. And that's not what happened until now.
Szunyog has said it is hard to understand why there is no visa liberalisation for Kosovo so far.
The visa liberalisation “, this is something that I personally find difficult to understand why it has not been done so far, but that is not a question for European Union institutions, EU institutions have done their part of the job, but we have the European Commission, we have an objection from 2018 a number of European Parliament resolutions, but that decision-making is in member states, is the EU Council that decides. I am saying again, I would like to see more that the government of Kosovo is offered to member states, to work through their embassies, there are many embassies that Kosovo has in EU member states”, he said.
He has said the Government of Kosovo should do its homework and present to member states the successes achieved.
“One of the former Kosovo ambassadors asked him how many times he had visited the Ministry of Internal Affairs and talked to these institutions that are responsible for the Schengen and migration issues, and he said, he had never received any instructions to present figures for example in the fight against organised crime and corruption, take active steps and speak to people who are decisionmakers... So I'd like to see the part besides EU institutions, see the government do their homework, present the successes in this area, and work with member states to get the necessary support of Council”, he added.
These statements, the chief of the EU Office in Kosovo, Thomas Szunyog has made them at a conference organised by the European Investors' Council on the sixth anniversary of the entry into force of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement.
