Scholz: We're working on reducing Russian energy imports

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz defended his state, which is being criticised for not giving up Russian energy imports, saying Berlin “is actively working” to get rid of Russian gas import addiction. “We are doing everything we can and doing a lot”, Scholz from London said. [...]
“We are doing everything we can and doing a lot of”, Scholz said from London on April 8th, stressing that Germany has a plan for energy diversification and that it is looking for other natural gas suppliers.
Germany is under pressure to do more to curb Russian energy imports, especially after evidence that Ukraine and many Western governments have shown of war crimes committed by Russian forces during their withdrawal from cities around Kiev.
“We are actively working to become independent of Russian oil imports and think we will be able to make it through this year”, Scholz said during a media conference with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
Russian oil accounts for about 25 percent of German imports, up from 35 percent before the launch of Ukraine's Russian occupation. Meanwhile, gas imports are 40 percent out of 55 before the invasion.
