Moscow has declared “persona no grata” 18 members of the EU delegation in Russia. “Staff members will have to leave the Russian Federation territory”, the foreign ministry said in a statement.
Responding, the EU said that “ruled the unjustified and groundless command”, adding that “had no basis for Friday's decision by Russian authorities beyond being a clean revenge step”.
Tens of Russian diplomats have been expelled from EU countries over the past month. In late March, Ireland, Belgium, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic issued co-ordinated orders to expel a total of 43 Russian embassy employees suspected of spying.
And on April 5th, the EU ordered 19 Russians to leave Belgium's host state for <x0 use of activities contrary to their diplomatic status”.
Russia has attempted to respond to such decisions with reciprocal action. /abcnews. al
