Gas distributors in Germany, Austria, Hungary and Slovakia are planning to open accounts in Gazprombank in Switzerland so that they can meet the Russian demand to pay in its currency, according to some sources that are informed of proper preparations.
Groups include two of the largest Russian gas importer companies: Düsseldorf-based Unipper and Vienna-based OMV.
Negotiations between European buyers and Russian Gazprom -- controlled by the state -- have been frequented as payment deadlines approach, sources said. /Periscopi/
