Kosovo's Energy Corporation has reacted last night, following reports that the GEN company with Belgrade's office blew up a scandal in Slovenia, allegedly including Kosovo Ambassador Martin Berisha, has received millions of euros from the state budget during the winter months energy crisis.

From KEKs they mentioned reporting at all, but only sent out an explanation for import and export of energy.

According to them, exports only occur when surpluses are presented and usually during the night.

Kosovo's “Energy Corporation (KEK) announces the opinion that electricity trade (export) by KEK is done mainly when surpluses are presented after local consumption needs are met. Pressures usually appear (at night) at an interval between 0100 and 7: 00 a.m.

Based on domestic procedures, KEK first declares the production of electricity for domestic consumption, namely the universal Service consumption needs, as well as the coverage of losses. As a result, in cases where surpluses appear, initially they are offered to KESH (excessive) and the rest of the energy (if left), then they burst into the market through the markets licensed by ZRE”, it says in clarification.

In addition, KEK says it should be taken into account that in the case when demand for electricity increases, the price of electricity increases, and the opposite is due to export - when electricity supply increases.

“While in terms of electricity trading (both export and import), the price is largely determined by demand and supply. Therefore, we need to bear in mind that when demand for electricity increases, the price of electricity increases, and the opposite is the case with exports - when electricity is increased - prices are lower.

In this regard, we suggest that the price of electricity imports is usually higher in relation to the price of electricity exports, which is that the need for electricity imports appears at the age of peak or at maximum consumption (day), that is, when there is a lack of local electricity but also in countries in the region and beyond. While the export of electricity from KEK is usually realised at a time when there are surplus electricity and it usually takes place at night. It is noteworthy that during the night, except that surplus local electricity appears, too, in the countries of the region and the wider”, the surplus is said to be further clarified.

According to Infokus, the Kosovo Energy Corporation, according to the newspaper's electricity exchange reports, has acquired electricity worth 4.2m euros in December 2021 and January 2022, while selling electricity to the company of around 105 thousand euros.

This company, which was reported to be Ambassador Martin Berisha, is their adviser and raised media doubts about suspicious transactions worth over half a million euros, in fact according to documents provided by Infocus has been constantly trading energy with KEK.

Even in the months when Kosovo was in energy collapse, KEK turns out to have sold electricity to this company, but at twice the price of the purchase price.

This trade exchange was made with state budget money -- ahead of which Prime Minister Albin Kurti had shared for buying electricity to overcome the crisis that has engulfed Kosovo.

KEK alone in this period, had bought electricity from this company for two months and then authorized the KED company / KESCO. But the sale of energy at highly convenient prices has continued even after this period, which the newspaper writes will publish facts the following days.

While KEK in January 2022 has sold electricity to the GEN company at prices of only 105 euros per megawatts, it has purchased electricity from Belgrade's headquarters company at a price of 255 euros for one megawatt.

In documents the paper has secured, energy purchase is made by two GEN companies, which have one office in Belgrade and another in Skopje. But the largest amount was purchased from Belgrade.

From this company, electricity worth over 2.3m euros was imported in January this year. And in December 2021, it imported electricity worth over 1.9m euros.

KEK's total import from all companies for December 2021 and January 2022 exceeds the figure of over 15.1m euros.

The scandal involving Ambassador Berishaaj was published on Thursday in Slovenian media, where allegations arose that over half a million euros in cash were carried by Montenegro to Slovenia, while the role of the mule, or cash carrier, was carried out by Kosovo Ambassador Berisha.
