US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Gabriel Escobar, one of the best connoisseurs of Balkan Affairs at the American State Department, insists that all Western Balkan countries should join the European Union.

In an interview for the Greek newspaper “To Vima”, the senior official names the region's EU membership as the necessity to bring security and stability to all of Europe. The Ukraine crisis reminded us once again why the US and the EU need each other, he said. In the same interview, Escobar also commented on developments in our country's Democratic Party.

He clearly indicated that Albania must leave the past behind.

“We have a very good relationship with the Democratic Party. A strong democracy needs a strong opposition. It's sad what happened to PD right now. ”

Escobar poses against Berisha, who is accused of following the “of an extremely divisive and anti-American rhetoric”, which “undeniably replaces what Albanians left behind in the past, corruption and division”.

“I hope that the DP members and the Albanian people will leave the past behind and look to the future. I hope what happened didn't bring back bad days when corruption characterised the view of many people in the region for Albania. ”

He further expressed concerns about the impact the third Balkan countries may have in view of Russia and China, while not including Turkey here, which he thought is a NATO member and helps preserve peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina, broadcast the TCh.
