11 years after the entry into force of the Kosovo Constitution, its changes are being sought, including the very way of electing the country's president. The issue differs from MPs in position and opposition.
VV MP Mimoza Kusari-Lila in an interview for Online Economy has said the election of president or president is part of electoral reform.
For this issue, she said she would work on the reform working group within the Parliament and that this process would be completed during this legislature.
“As far as electing the president or president, this is part of electoral reform. We as the Kosovo Assembly, together with the Speaker of the Parliament and the leaders of political parties in the Parliament, are committed to starting with the ad-hoc group within the Parliament as soon as possible. To begin preparing the agenda for electoral reform and, under it, the election of president or president will be addressed. It has been a long time since electoral reform is discussed without any results because this legislature has the golden opportunity to successfully complete electoral reform”, Kusari-Lila said.
MP The PDK, Bekim Haxhiu, said constitutional changes in Kosovo should be adjusted to the constitutional changes of Albania “to be an Albanian confederation, Albanian Senate and an entire Albanian president”.
I think in terms of constitutional changes and changing the Law for Elections we need a general consensus. I think Kosovo's constitutional changes should be adjusted to Albania's constitutional changes so we can have an Albanian confederation to have an Albanian Senate and a full Albanian president. These are my ideals and I think they're possible to come true. But there have been presidents who have been elected by the Assembly who have not been members of political parties”, he said.
AAK Parliamentary Group chief Besnik Tahiri added that constitutional changes are broad political themes and needs consensus.
According to Tahiri, it is most necessary for the people to be declared by vote for the president, EO reports.
“Constitutional changes are a very broad political topic and requires political consensus. In the context of Kosovo, all constitutional changes made must be very careful”.
