Prime Minister Edi Rama is reportedly one of the candidacys for NATO Secretary General instead of Jens Stoltenberg. Also in the race for the post is Estonia's Prime Minister, Kaya Kallas.
Whether it's a April 1st joke is unknown, but academic and communications researcher Susan Starikov writes that the US itself demands that the leader of NATO after Stoltenberg is one of the new NATO members.
In her post, she even hints that Rama will be elected at NATO's helm in September 2023 when raising the question “Who will be Albania's next prime minister?”.
“Edi Rama will succeed Jens Stoltenberg in the post of NATO Secretary General. In particular, it is said that the US have insisted on choosing the next NATO Secretary General among new NATO members. The candidates were Estonia Prime Minister Kaya Kallas and Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama. Who will be Albania's next prime minister?”, she writes.
Jens Stoltenberg's mandate ended in September 2022 at the helm of NATO, but due to the war in Ukraine, it was extended by one year to 2023.
