Speaking ahead of the start of talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres, reiterated the need to do everything possible to end the war in Ukraine, writes the BBC, notes Periscope.
Guterres -- who today will also meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin -- said he wants to create the conditions for dialogue, for ceasefire and, at the end, for peace.
“We need a ceasefire as soon as possible”, he said.
Secretary Guterres also said he is of priority to minimize human suffering in Ukraine.
Talks are now held behind closed doors, but Lavrov and Guterres will hold a conference later.
